Theatre — 2017
Writer & Performer · Directed by Joanna Bowen · Farnham Maltings · 2017
A solo performance — 50 minutes — for studio spaces. The story of Claire Lyons, a woman expected not to make the wedding speech. Over twenty-four hours she sets out to find her "brave bone": she stumbles into a protest, makes an unexpected friend who happens to be a shoplifter, ends up in a prison cell, and discovers that bravery is contagious.
"A clarion call to be brave in an age in which we are constantly told to be fearful."
Written and performed by Catherine Ireton, conceived with Gavin Stride. Music co-written with Ed Briggs — uses found sounds, electronic samples, pre-recorded score and live piano. Directed by Joanna Bowen.
Developed with support from Farnham Maltings, Arts Council England, and the MAKE residency (Irish Theatre Forum). Songs from the show are available on Bandcamp →
